Thanksgiving Breakfast Dance 2007

The annual Thanksgiving Day Breakfast Dance is one of Kansas City's finest traditions. This year's event started at ten in the morning at the National Guard Armory in Kansas City, Kansas.

The sound in the big hall is horrendous. Only the dancers in front of the stage can hear the bands clearly. But no one complains. There's much more to the event than music. It's also about drinking, socializing and showing off your flashiest clothes.

Johnnie Taylor, Jr., was not pleased when I refused to buy his CDs.

Another of the late Johnnie Taylor's sons, Floyd Taylor, put on a fine show.

The resiliency of the soul-blues tradition is impressive.

Millie Jackson headlined.

While she's infamous for her use of sordid language and shocking album art, Jackson's solid set was relatively conventional.

millie talked too much, not enough dancing music. need entertainer to party with, not listen to. Try to get Frankie Beverly & Maze, Whispers, Bobby Womack, etc.
